The Richenshire chaotic six
Assassination Attempt of the Duke of Richenshire
The Redmen were contracted to escort a person of interest into the inner city of Richenshire bypassing the guard’s gates. Not wanting to perform the task themselves, being mostly a information gathering rogue;s guild, they decided to further subcontract the work to a more adventurous group. Skeeg, the "face"of the guild decided to introduce himself to Shifty, a upstart rogue he had been keeping tabs on for months, and see if he would like to take on this task. Shifty presented the opportunity to the group and they quickly decided to accept. They were asked to meet two strangers in the small farming town of Upriver. The party travelled to Upriver, meeting a helpful wizard along the way in a battle with some goblins, and met up with the two strangers. One stranger, Skar, was intrinsically linked to the other, using some sort of mind controlling spell that required constant attention, and would provide no help to the party if they encountered anything. The party escorted the pair back to the city and utilized an abandoned underground route from the outer city to the inner city via catacombs. These abandoned catacombs contained giant spiders, Ghouls and dire rats. After successfully getting through the older abandoned catacombs, breaking into the new catacombs and sneaking out of the church, they delivered the pair to the tavern and received their reward from Phillip, Skeeg’s right hand man.
Some time after that, the pair made their way onto the palace grounds, the mind-controlled individual being the duke’s personal chef. While the chef prepared the meal the other coated the meal with poison. Before the plate could make it to the king, the guards (who had been put on alert by another group of concerned citizens) identified the assassin as such and engaged in combat. The assassin was able to distract the guards and fled via breaking through a heavy window.
After that the city guards were put on high alert to find the assassin and to find anyone in conjunction with the assassination. Upon hearing this, Skeeg warned the party that they were considered person’s of interest and should flee the city.
